Despite the VMCC dating it to 1950, I'd say it's late 1951 (based on the engine number); the registration number dates from 1952.
I like the way he says:
He's not allowed for the old adage that the last 20% of the work takes the last 80% of the time.
Somebody (not me) has snapped it up.

Excelsior Autobyk S1 on ebay www.ebay.co.uk/itm/193994392320 Would make a nice partner for mine, my thoughts are torn between wishing it sells cheap so I can but it, or wishing the price goes high so mine is worth more

I don't think these were ever offered by Nick ! they were commissioned to head the classified advertisements in the "Classic Bike Guide" (CBG) magazine. They were in every issue from December 2002 to September 2009. Nick kindly supplied us with copies of some apt pictures.

Anybody seen these forks on a Raynal before? I have, about 4 years ago ... but it was the same bike!
Post-war Raynals started at frame number 6000, which makes this only the 19th off the production line and the oldest surviving post-war Raynal I know of. Of course, now I've said that, an older one will appear tomorrow.

Funnily enough, that one was for sale at an auction in March 2013 ... whoever bought it then must have taxed it soon after but never used it - seeing there's an unused tax disc that expired in April 2014
