LANCASHIRE SLOW RIDERS
HUDSONS IN THE PARK RIDE.
So what started out as a riding lesson for me on my ‘not quite so newly aquired New Hudson’ turned out to be a group ride , and another novice autocycle rider took up the invite to join us on his maiden autocycle ride .
The weather in Wigan was not very good to say the least, but myself and Jon Kay took our bikes upto Leyland to meet the others on a car park ; waiting for us there was Peter Moore and our old friend Frank bz, I can't pronounce or spell his second name but you probably all know who he is .
Then Steve Taylor joined us on his Francis Barnet, - he had ridden it in despite the weather , and was nominated as our back up rider and marshal for us novices , not sure he was aware of this though.
Then another New Hudson came purring onto the car park much to our surprise as we weren’t expecting anyone else Some discussion was held about who could it possibly be ?
Dave , (I think his name is) removed his helmet and introduced himself, [Edit: he is in fact Steve Sharples - but will henceforward and forever be known as Dave in LSR circles!]. He found out about our planned little ride from his friend an LSR member , thanks Norman Hinchcliffe for spreading the word .
Then Phil Johnson arrived on his Honda C100; yes we always have at least one Honda on all our rides just so we know .
Stephen Barton-Rossall sent his apologies for not making it or we would have had 6 New Hudsons. I didn’t know we had that many owners in the LSR .
Neville Hutton also sent his apologies for not making it, and Paul Morgan would meet us at our destination.
And so the NH’S were started, {apart from Frank’s} Frank's pedal decided to come off, but no holding him back, it was soon push started and away we went on our epic journey.
A scenic tour of Peters home town/village and then we rode into Worden Park, where the Lancashire Vehicle Club were holding an event and had invited us along.
We were greeted by the Chairman and some other members of the LVC who thanked us for making an appearance and certainly made us feel very welcome indeed.
Crowds flocked to look over our display of bikes and it was a great feeling knowing people appreciated these old machines .
We spent a few hours in the park, a few showers but plenty of trees to get shelter underneath.
The sun kept appearing and so with a break in the clouds it was decided to make our exit, thanking everyone at the LVC for making us so welcome and inviting us to future events .
The ride back to our meeting point was a bit eventful as you expect with Autocycles, - it comes part and parcel, my NH was coughing and spluttering, Frank left his choke strangler on so needed a plug change, but we all made it back.
We said our goodbyes and some of us loaded our bikes in the back of our vans, others rode home and we all agreed that we must do it again soon.
Brilliant day out and a great first riding lesson for myself and Jon Kay who is itching to get out again.
Our next ride is planned for 9th October, meeting in Leyland and riding to Buckshaw Village, Tesco Car Park where once again we have been invited by the LVC to display our bikes at a fundraising event being held there, in aid of Derian House.
You certainly don’t need to own a NH or an Autocycle to join us, the LSR and the LVC welcome anyone and anything you choose to ride/drive and certainly don’t exclude anyone, so put the date in your diary and watch out for announcements of dates/times/venues.
