I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction to help identify the year of make of my Motobecane which I have just acquired. The serial number reads 12736. it is an AV3 and doesn't have a clutch.

1950. I expect the zero on the lower panel is part of the year - the very early models carry the year of manufacture on the plate. I think it was in 1954 they changed to putting the réception date on.

James, thank you so much for your reply. I thought it might be 1950, the year that I was born. Part of the reason I bought it. Do you know if and where you get a replica plate made?

Do you know if and where you get a replica plate made? No. I though they were available on French eBay but either I was mistaken or they've all disappeared. It should look a bit like this: Though your earlier one isn't quite the same, saying 50cm³ instead of 49.9cm³
I expect the Motobécane Club de France forum would be the best place to ask.
