June again; time to renew my bike insurance. Asked my broker for price for the new year as they had not sent a reminder. Turns out I had forgotten to pay last year and have been riding with no insurance for the last twelve months. In spite of this I have re-taxed three bikes during this time when they have had no insurance cover for over ten months. So much for the DVLA database checks.

It would of not been the DVLA database to check, they don't check for insurance these days (it was probably something to do with data protection) but if it's taxed it should be Continuous Insured and that would or should be the Motor Insurance Database (MID).

I thought the DVLA always checked the MID for ins. cover when we apply for tax on line. In fact I'm sure I used to see a notice come up to say insurance would be checked when doing it.
Think I'll just say nothing and keep my head down. After all I'm £200+ better off, just thankful that nothing happened and I got away with it. The consequences could have been very expensive!
I did actually check on the MID but only after this came to light and I had paid the new premium so of course they all came up as insured then.

You were lucky to get away with it, but all is well that ends well, I also thought an insurance check was carried out when taxing a vehicle, I agree keep your head down and enjoy the summer motoring.

I knew they didn't check when you taxed a vehicle, but thought they did a periodic check of taxed vehicles against the MID.
