The cleaning of parts and pre assembly is progressing fine (1939 Rudge autocycle basket case) I have now added new tyres and tubes + ordered the handlebars.
Looking at the exhaust system on the JDL engine all is complete up to the exhaust outlet in the expansion box, according to Villiers Junior De-luxe parts diagram the exhaust pipe / tail pipe with flange D5787 and the 'joint washer' E5787 are missing.
On closer inspection I saw a load of nuts inside the expansion box they looked like hazel nuts to me, all without shells, after a good 10 minutes shaking and turning I had around 100 on the floor, no doubt a squirrel or a rats collection! Anyway they are now on the bird table.
The bore of the exhaust port measures 1.32" but looking at photo's on the net the exhaust pipe seems a lot thinner than this, can anyone tell me;
The diameter of the tailpipe, and the diameter of the flange on the tailpipe and how far along the tailpipe the flange is set (how much sticks up the expansion box)
I will then be able to fabricate a pipe with flange and an outer joint washer which is clamped by the studs.
Many thanks, Larry
