Frame No just A (so probably early as per information gleaned from a previous dating certificate) 484 and Engine number is also low at SH 888. I have been assured there is an old Buff to go with it, will be interesting to see and hopefully be able to reclaim original registration number ?

Old crusty got a bit of attention today, it's not seized but there is No spark. Tool box cover is leather with a couple of snap fasteners! original fitment or war time make do and mend ?

original fitment or war time make do and mend ? The brochure says 'A steel toolbox is provided beneath the saddle, with a hinged lever lid fastened by spring button, weatherproof and unbreakable'. So... A: make do and mend B: not quite as unbreakable as Excelsior claimed.

I was going to argue that my leather tool box lid looked original (with 1 solid rivet and 1 snap fastener).
I now have further evidence and produce: Exhibit 1 (not mine but currently on eBay)

I know this thread is a few months old, how are you getting on with the refurb? I love the toolbox original or not. can I suggest a way to restore the toolbox, smother in saddle soap or dubbin or leather balm and seal it in a plastic bag for a few weeks so it soaks in and does not dry out, then buff up gently.
My friend did this with an old leather 'dry' 1950's casey football and the result was amazing.
