Bit of a story here but I will try to be brief. Many moons ago (2012) I won a Tomos on eBay, the seller Mick S was and still is a member of the club. Said Tomos was declared to be a starter but wouldn't keep running, into storage it went. Fast forward to this year and it came out of it's long time hibernation.
any pictures I had seen of this model all had an engine with a smaller barrel, a post on Facebook and what I had was the wrong engine (reed valve) but it did have the correct carb for that bike shoehorned in. I did mange to remove it, clean it, refit it and hooked up to a slave tank it started and revved it's nuts off.
Also in storage (like you do) I had another 2 Tomoses
the Red one gave up it's engine, carb and stand, everything works
It was added to my insurance on July 1st so can legally be rode to the pre booked MOT test tomorrow.
That will be the first one of them for a few years and shock horror I will also have to pay road tax.

Strange times, I haven't been here for a few years on a bike, at least I didn't have to go out of the village and the tester remembers seeing them in his mums catalogue that's a good start.
Sorted: Breakfast, bike passed with an advisory "Registration plate deteriorated but not likely to be misread [0.1(b)], Taxed online. Time to burn some rubber!
Thank goodness for "Historic" £25 for the MOT and £21 for Tax. I wouldn't want to do that 20 times.

Tomos (long story short) update. My White Tomos had the wrong engine (non runner) fitted but came with the correct (matching numbers) bottom end. The Red bike gave up it's (complete) engine. and the Disco was MOTed
Blood sweat and tears later, the blue bike has gave up it's engine: piston/barrel, kick start mechanism etc utilised via much head scratching to sort the missing flywheel out. Correct engine is now in and running.
Q What could possibly go wrong ? A There could be a problem with the clutches/gears and that was why the replacement engine was fitted (hopefully not and they just wanted the later reed valve engine in). WTS

Talked that one up didn't I ! The correct engine was up and running out of the frame and starting with an electric drill. In the bike, kick start on and the most horrible granshing (made up word) sound which did ease after a while, obviously something wrong and couldn't be left like that. In the Haynes manual there was a thing called a friction clip.
Now I hadn't seen one of these but it found it after draining the oil, inside the clutch cover and after taking the clutches and gears out of a spare engine so stripped my engine and found this
To be continued

Some people! That was never going to work, the proper job actually grips fairly tight, probably didn't help that I ran it but I wasn't to know BILLY BODGER had been in there.
Guessing that would of happened when the bike was fairly new, it's a 1990 bike before I taxed it this year the DVLA records were showing last taxed 1993 Only problem now is: Now the kickstart ratchet isn't making a noise I'm hearing others
