My longest run so far is 20 miles but I'm new to this game. I'm planning a 90 mile trip (lap of Lough Neagh) this August so have been trying out a few saddles to minimise the discomfort. I have done the trip before on a push bike and it was agony after 60 miles . So I've been playing with various saddles, the standard Wrights that came with the bike (not bad but room for improvement), a couple of old brooks I found in the shed (B90 & B83), and a shiny new one I picked up on eBay (way too stiff). So far I think the Brooks B90 is the comfiest, but if Carlsberg made saddles which one would it be?

if Carlsberg made saddles which one would it be? The answer will not be the same for anyone. Bums are all different, weight, height riding style, suspension (or lack of) make a big difference. The best answer is to do what you have been doing; experiment. I recommend a gel seat cover on top of your saddle of choice. Cycle shops and some big retailers will stock them or you can get them online.

if Carlsberg made saddles which one would it be? I'm tempted to say it'd be nothing special, like their beer ... but perhaps I won't. In addition to what Matthew has said, your ride on a pedal cycle is no guide to what it would be like on an autocycle. On a pedal cycle, a Brooks B17 would be what I'd choose, but I'd never put one on an autocycle; similarly, a nice, wide, springy autocycle saddle would soon be agony on a pedal cycle. I think that a saddle with good springs at the back is best as it compensates for the lack of rear suspension. It needs to have good up and down movement, but no sideways movement or you lose the feel of the bike ... there are no knee grips on an autocycle!

Not a big fan of that brand of beer myself Funny you should mention the sideways movement, the brooks has a lot of that and I think it adds to the fun factor, for the big ride I may just bring a second saddle and change half way to move the pressure points to a different location.
