Hi, I've had a bit of a disaster-While removing the flywheel from my wipac 90 generator, the puller slipped and damaged the thread on the central post that the flywheel retaining nut fastens on. I successfully removed the flywheel but now I can't get the securing nut started on the post. I have tried filing the damaged thread without success. I thought about getting a die or a thread file but have no idea what size of thread it is -Any ideas anyone ?

5/16" x 22tpi, which I believe is BSF. If you can find a 'vintage' square die, ie: one that is formed of two halves that are clamped together in the stock, you can assemble it around the undamaged bit of the thread and then unscrew it over the damaged portion.

Thanks James I find the range of thread types overwhelming, what with BSF, BSP, BA, AF, Whitworth etc. I think those foreign chaps were onto something with the metric system.

I think those foreign chaps were onto something with the metric system. It's just a fad, I don't think it will catch on
