This is a long shot, but I'm out of ideas so I thought I'd see if someone out there might have a suggestion......
I've had it for a while but just got it running properly again and tidied up the trim panels etc. (I did have it running about a year ago for a while around a mate's farm tracks). Its always started instantly - even just using the pedal as a kickstart - and run well. Last weekend I did a 10 mile circuit with at top speed of 26mph. I then took it for another run a few days ago and after about 6 miles in lost power and stopped. At the time I thought blocked filter/jet so recovered it in a van.
However, no fuel blockage. I've had the carb apart (several times), changed the plug (it has an excellent spark), put fresh fuel in it, taken exhaust off and checked it (in case it was blocked) checked that it has compression.
To try to start it I've turned to using an electric drill with a socket on the crank nut. This spins it over good and fast (it was how i started it initially when I first got it going). Sometimes it will fire and run for a few seconds. Other times it does nothing at all. Once it ran for about 30 seconds at max(ish) revs. then died (I have it on the bench so the centrifugal clutch operates and I can get the revs up).
The symptoms say to me fuel problems, but the carb/jet is definitely not blocked (and when i take the float bowl off it is full of petrol). I'm completely out of ideas. I'd even made it a carrier to go on the back of the car so I can take it on local runs (when we are allowed out again) so I want to get it running.
The only thought I've had is that I've wondered if, possibly, a crank seal has failed - but it did seem to develop the fault and die within a few yards and was running fine until that point. I'm no expert on 2 strokes but I've always considered that is an engine has petrol, spark and compression it should run. If, for example, the ignition had slipped it wouldn't start at all - and why should that suddenly happen anyway?
I'm completely at a loss, does anyone have any suggestions? With apologies for the length of this essay.......
