Good job it was back in March John :-) But the actual strike is on now. Is it. I was going to say it's all gone quiet since the BBC Wales news item. Quite impressive that a letter has been received in 4 and a bit weeks for the Bineta then.

Thanks for that info James/ dave.but I am now getting a little concerned over my V5c.for my Puch moped.i sent it off before Xmas to be changed to historic taxation class.and still have not received it back.i know that they are allegically.working at only part capacity.but I think that it's now about long winded.so when I send my RM11 v5c to be changed to historic.i am going to put a covering letter in regarding my Puch v5c.and my friend as advised me to send it by registered post.so if and when they receive it the letter as got to be singed for.

John Do not send documents to DVLA to change to Historic. Do nothing until you want to Tax it. Fill in the change section, take the V5C and a V112 to a Post Office. They Tax it for you and send the document to Swansea. You walk out with a receipt for £0.00 4 Weeks later an amended document arrives.
Did you copy the document you sent in December? (I think you will get a "we did not receive it" reply, send a V62 and £25). It's not a good idea to send stuff recorded delivery to Swansea, it can delay getting to the correct person (making sure you use the correct post code for the department required is important).

I changed my Mobylette to historic tax via the local PO earlier this year and got the V5C back in under 2 weeks. Dr Watson is absolutely correct.

It's not a good idea to send stuff recorded delivery to Swansea, it can delay getting to the correct person Really? I don't see why - it's not as if anyone at DVLA actually signs for it - I believe Royal Mail does that on their behalf and delivers it along with everything else (pretty much the same arrangement as now applies to the rest of us during the Covid restrictions). I frequently send stuff to DVLA 'Signed For' ... but I'm sending things for other people so have more need for some sort of trail. (making sure you use the correct post code for the department required is important). OTOH, that really is important.

I frequently send stuff to DVLA 'Signed For' ... but I'm sending things for other people so have more need for some sort of trail. 1 It came from the horses mouth, in replying to a query. The intended recipient advised not to send it recorded due to holding up them actually receiving the item. Just saying.
2 Yep OK to have a trail. But if the trail goes cold what happens ? Years ago when my original birth certificate went missing I received a book of stamps. Just saying
Also, Fairly recently the tracked system was a waste of time: it tracked posted and delivered, anything between was anybody's guess! Just saying.
Having just said the above I do find the Royal Main postal service (especially if sent 1st Class) is very good these days.

1 It came from the horses mouth, in replying to a query. The intended recipient advised not to send it recorded due to holding up them actually receiving the item. Just saying. <Ann Elk>I have a theory...</Ann Elk> DVLA has several postcodes, each of which goes to a specific department (eg: V55/5 forms go to SA99 1BE). But, there's also an 'everything else' postcode of SA99 1ZZ for the weird stuff and anything sent there should be addressed to the relevant department. I wonder if everything that has to be signed for gets lumped in with the ZZ stuff, which would delay it getting to the right place. On the other hand, things that are actually meant to be in the ZZ batch just wend their merry way the same whether signed for or not... ...well, it's a theory...
[I'm off to the Post Office now, to send a 'signed for' letter to SA99 1ZZ.]
