Hi george09 welcome many mopeds will climb steep hills what varies is how much help you need to give or not . Have you a preference pedals, gears old or more modern scooter type? Approx budget?

Lots of things to consider here. The bike rack that you have will influence this. I have one that fixes low down, and incorporates a ramp. I take 2 mopeds on this. Then as Rally9 says, budget will come into play. Etc etc. P,s. I'm also in my 70s.

The yamaha qt50 moped was popular for carrying on the back of campers and is not to big i dont know what they are like on hills but they seem to wizz along on the flat have you read the road test in the icenicam website articals section (shop till we drop)

If you have a towbar look at Dave Cooper racks website. hi raypaice. no towbar if i had to go down that route i would get a 125cc bike or something . i have a bike rack that carried 2 e-bikes 22kg each & the rack is good for 52kg so the moped has to be lite . a garelli gulp comes in around that weight so any thoughts please george09

Approx budget? hi rally9. budget is not a problem as its a needs must ( my old bones getting worn out ) . just sold my e-bikes . the best places in France & Spain campsites are nearly up & down hills to the shop or a ride out . so its weight i am looking for so not having messing about altering the bike rack on the back & hill performance i need cheers all . george

Were your e bikes hub motor drive as the mid drive ones are better for hills as the motor drives through the rear wheel gears so selecting the lowest ratio helps the motor also the higher power motors (naughty) really fly I would not want to put a moped on the bike rack on our motorhome

Will you be ok lifting 52kg onto your bike rack my fiamma rack rails are over 3 feet off the ground and i dont think i could lift my moped up there. As raypaice said the dave cooper racks are very good but you would need to have a towbar fitted i think i would look at the yamaha qt50 43kg standard less after you have stripped off anything that is not needed to make it go and stop

hi rally9. thanks for your information our rack is 3 feet off the ground also but wouldn't dream of trying to put the moped on by myself there is always some fellow camper about to lift off & on as i have done helping someone else . watching on you tube i found out a 2 stroke are better for hills & a moped with variable automatic transmission if so what makes are they but keeping weight down . As you have a set of criteria, it may be better to just see what's available that meets them. The bike I've had at the back of my mind since this thread began is the Motobécane/Motoconfort Moby X7V ... but having suggested it, that won't help if you can't find one; and if you go looking for a specific machine, you might overlook something that's just as suitable.

I use a Mobylette 50v which has climbed all hills so far with a big built rider. Not quick up the steeper ones but the variator (infinite belt gearing) does it’s job well.
My Mobylette AV42 had no variator and needed help on steeper hills
