Hi all, reading the NOVA reminder in the MAC made me realise I'd better try and get a certificate for the two Peugeot BIMAs I've got in bits. So I duly went to the HMRC site and that's where the problems started. The article and site state you don't need NOVA for 48cc bikes; sometimes the BIMA is shown as 48cc, sometimes 49cc. I thought I'd better declare them anyway, especially as I've had them over the 14 days... shhh. This led to the next issue. I brought them from a guy near Newcastle, not from France, so I can't put his name as the seller. I'm guessing I'll have to give them a ring and try to get an answer unless anyone else has experienced this issue and can offer advice on what they did.
The good news is that yesterday I had a proper look at the engine back from Danny. What a superb job! The cylinder looks brand new. Hopefully I'll get it put back together today.

I wouldn't worry about phoning HMRC, with good behaviour you will be able to have visitors. You need dating certificates ASAP it will give you the CC and manufacture dates which you will need anyway to register.

A Bima is 40mm bore x 39 mm stroke = 49.01cc.

Guess there's 2 options 1/ Do it online and be economical with the truth (imported date) and fudge a receipt if they ask for one (I didn't just say that did I). 2/ Paper application and a grovelling cover letter. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll try online first. How do I get a dating cert? Guess I'll need to find a frame number?

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll try online first. How do I get a dating cert? Guess I'll need to find a frame number? You will most defiantly need frame number to do the NOVA, register it and for the dating certificate.
Dating certificates are 4x pictures. 2X of the complete bike (1x each side) 1x frame number 1x engine number to Mr secretary, dating officer and all round good guy membership@autocycle.org.uk.
PS Fee for the dating cert is £10

Guess I'll need to find a frame number? It should be on the rear wheel drop-out - usually on the left one, but sometimes - particularly on 'other' brands like the Terrot Lutin - on the right.

Thanks for that, and all the replies. I've had a very quick look and I suspect it's on the right but I'll have to take the wheel off and clean the frame to be certain. Oh, I'll have to refit the engines for the photos!

Better still nick join the EACC brill club and run by moped enthusiastic owners themselves.6 photos required both sides of the bike front and back and one each of the frame and engine number.+ As Dave says £10 for the dating cert.

Hi, yes I've already joined. The mopeds were a bit of an impulse buy and it was during the first night's research I came across the club. Since I know absolutely nothing about them, except I probably rode one on a school exchange to France hundreds of years ago (which included going round a roundabout and meeting lots of cars going around the wrong way and on the wrong side of the road!), I thought joining the club would be not only a good idea but absolutely essential. I need to sort NOVA as a matter of urgency, only I bought them from a local guy who brought them here in the back of a Transit van. So I don't have a French address to declare on the form, plus it's well over 14 days.

Quick update: Good News: I’ve had an email from ptu.support saying my NOVA application has been processed and giving me a NOVA number so that I can apply to the dvla for a V5. Not So Good News: I sent two applications, recorded delivery and in the same envelope, and there’s no mention of the second one, or even it’s existence.
One step forward, one step back!
