So I've now taken delivery of my 1965 Velosolex 3300. It is in really good condition with two exceptions - front and rear lamps not present!! There do not seem to be any wires going from anywhere to either lamp area and it would obviously be a lot easier to fit rechargeable or battery operated cycle lamps in the originals' places. From what I have heard regarding the original fitted lamps, replacements as I've described would be a lot more effective? In view of its age the bike will not require an MOT as, if it did, I have no doubt that the original fitted lamps would have to be working. However I am in the throes of getting it registered, could DVLA argue that its not roadworthy if the original lamps don't work?
No, DVLA doesn't concern itself with roadworthiness apart from checking that vehicles that need one have an MoT. Even if DVLA wants an inspection as part of the registration process, this is to confirm the vehicle's identity, not roadworthiness.
