Despite the bad weather forecasts for the whole weekend Saturday was nice here and at 07:00 Sun there was no wind and it was dry outside. Game on, but by 08:00 the rain had started.
9:00 at the Repps with Bastwick Village Hall and the nice key lady says "do you want to cancel?" too late, as some maybe already travelling.
Matthew Hodder arrived nice and early to help out with tea boy etc duties and not long after Martin, Andrew and Danny with a van loaded with 3 bikes and a goodly selection of his stock arrive from Suffolk.
Our Norfolk member Chris Evans arrives with his NH Autocycle and it was good to see ?? from Cromer with a picture of his recently purchased Rudge Autocycle, that is not quite run ready yet but looking forward to seeing him on future runs.
It was good to see club members Mr & Mrs ?? over from Cambridge with some previously unseen period brochures etc from the old Pride and Clarke company where his father worked and it was good that Jim made the effort all the way from Long Sutton, Lincolnshire.
The assembled mass: well 6 of us (Matthew had another appointment to keep) declared "we would go for it" but wait another 1/2hr to see if the rain would stop. No such luck so we togged up and headed out doing the run including a couple of rural loops that didn't really add much mileage.
We arrived at the lunch stop just as Matthew rejoined (in his car) and Mr & Mrs ?? also joined us, those that ate were pleased with the food that was available at reasonable cost.
It looked like it stopped raining, then started again, then stopped again so we decided to do the full return route. Guess what? it started raining again just as we got back on the bikes.
We done Upton and it wasn't that bad but turning towards the scenic route to Thurne it hammered down.
We arrived back at the hall drenched, where Matthew had gone on ahead and put the kettle on.
We loaded our "wet" wet gear, bikes and Danny's stock was loaded and guess what? as we were saying our bye's the sun came out.
Thankfully all 6 bikes performed faultlessly, doing 30.26 wet miles with a max of 20.7 MPH.
Would I do it again? Yes; it will defiantly it will be on the calendar for next year (with more notice and NO rain).
