I am restoring a 1947 New Hudson Autocycle, with a Villiers Junior Deluxe engine.
I have a new coil, new condenser, new HT lead and plug, but no spark.
Can anyone sense check the wiring?
For some reason I cant post bigger pictures - but could email if light could be shed
I realise the yellow wire marked 1 needs to be grounded, but cant see a natural point and the yellow wire two leads from the new condenser to the new coil. there is a small hole in the casing, which I've grounded them on, but still no spark
the second picture is the reverse - it looks correct to me, the brown wire marked three comes from the lighting coil - but not sure this is wired correct - but shouldn't impact on spark anyway
The magnets are strong, but the points are not new - clean but not new
Haven't worked on a JDL (yet) and not quite sure from the pictures but can tell you NO wires need grounding.
That's correct: any grounding that needs to be done is within the coils. In the ignition circuit there's just the one wire from the LT to the points, plus the HT lead, which has a spring contact to the back of the coil. I think the two lighting coils are wired wrongly - I wonder if it's worth trying with them disconnected? They're completely separate electrically but could the mis-wiring adversely affect the magnetic flux reversal?
